Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies
How to do Turtle
The students have learned how to "Do Turtle"! The turtle technique is used for increasing self-control, decreasing impulsive behaviours and to signal distress. This year, the students will learn that they can learn to control their own behaviours when they are angy, mad, sad or excited. Encourage them to try this at home!
Basic Feelings
Happy - We have been working on defining the feeling "happy". The students have learned that people show they are happy using their face. We have talked about how the mouth and eyes are parts of our faces that show how we are feeling.
Sad- We have looked at different pictures of someone feeling sad and seeing that the eyes and mouth are really important to look at to tell if someone is sad. We discussed about why the person might be feeling sad and if the students have ever had a time when they have felt sad.
Mad/Angry - The students should be able to recognize the facial expressions and the body postures associated with the feeling "mad". We also talked about different situations that might cause someone to feel mad/angry.

PATHS Kid For Today!
Everyday, a student will be picked from each class to be the PATHS Kid For Today! They will be a special helper for the teacher and will receive compliments throughout the day. We will fill out a compliment list for each student to take home when it is their turn to be the PATHS Kid For Today.

Circle Rules
As a whole class, we have discussed what the expectations are for when they are sitting together at the carpet. Six different goals we have are;
- To sit cross-legged.
- Wait quietly for your turn.
- Listen to the person who is talking.
- Keep your hands to yourself.
- Use gentle touches.
- Raise your hand if you want a turn.
